McVay's Egg Wagon

J. H. McVay's egg wagon, circa 1910. In the early 1900s, one way to market your eggs was to sell them to an egg man, who traveled with a wagonload of eggs from town to town. Hauling eggs over rough dirt roads meant that the wagon had to be cushioned with a bed of straw or cottonseed. This wagon and team belong to J. H. McVay of Healing Springs (Benton County). The man pictured here worked for McVay. Lucile Dees McVay Collection (S-95-95-8)
