West side of the Fayetteville Square, circa 1872. The second building from the right is the present-day location of the Campbell-Bell Building. At the time of this photo, the city was still rebuilding from the Civil War. Fayetteville's population was nearing 1,000, and a major economic boost came when Arkansas Industrial University opened on January 22, 1872.
