Spavinaw Creek Bridge construction, circa 1909

The Spavinaw Creek bridge east of Decatur (Benton County) nears completion, circa 1909. According to Benton County historian Nancy Feroe, "This was the old bridge across the Spavinaw Creek at Root's Playground, 8½ miles west of Decatur on Highway 102. The crossing was moved to its current location and a concrete bridge erected in the 1960s."

One of the men pictured is Clarence Louis Miller (1875-1946), who made his living as a carpenter, stone mason, and contractor in the Decatur area and for a time in Missouri. Another man in the photo is John Burrow, a local farmer who also worked on the bridge construction project. Carly Josephson Collection (S-2015-59-36)
